---- — TRAVERSE CITY — Investigators said it will be difficult to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed a commercial building in Blair Township.
No one was inside the ProSelect Paint building off South M-37, north of Vance Road, when the fire started Wedneday at about 10:30 p.m. Flames ripped through the back half of the building, which consisted of warehouse and storage space. A front office wasn’t affected by flames but sustained water and smoke damage.
An excavator had to remove large pieces of the roof after it fell in on the flames.
“There’s just chaos, and it’s really difficult to figure out where it started,” said Jim Carroll, Blair Township Fire Department chief. “We’re going to go on initial reports of what people saw when they got there.”
Carroll couldn’t give a damage estimate but said the building is a total loss.
Crews remained on scene until about 3:30 a.m.
Blair Township was assisted by Grand Traverse Rural and Metro fire departments.
