A 60-year-old woman was shot in the back by a neighbor in Kalkaska County, authorities said.
The victim, Claudia Ann Roberts, was airlifted to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City following the Saturday night shooting at a residence on Country Road.
Roberts was in stable condition at the hospital Sunday morning, Kalkaska County Sheriff David Israel said.
Israel said dispatchers received a report of a woman shot Saturday at 9:30 p.m. at the residence. Deputies arrived and found Roberts on the floor of the home with a gunshot wound to the back.
An investigation indicated a 61-year-old male neighbor broke into the woman's home and shot her, Israel said.
A motive was not immediately disclosed.
"The victim and relatives were able to tell police that the"¦neighbor had come to the home and kicked open the door and shot the victim with a rifle as she attempted to run away from him," Israel said.
The suspect's identity was not released.
He was located at his home on Priest Road and arrested at 5 a.m.
Kalkaska County prosecutor Michael Perreault charged the suspect with attempted murder and a felony firearms charge.
