Rain gives way to milder temperatures

Region is expected to be much warmer than normal

TRAVERSE CITY — Hello, warmth.

Monday's rain and this week's expected mild temperatures will continue to melt away memories of an early March storm that dumped snow and caused widespread power outages.

Traverse City temperatures today are expected to reach into the low- to mid-50s and climb into the mid-60s Wednesday.

Thursday and Friday also will see temperatures around 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

That's warmer than usual temperatures for this time of year, when average highs typically run in the upper 30s, said Nick Schwartz, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Gaylord.

"(We're) generally looking at way-above average temperatures currently forecasted for probably at least the next 10 days," he said.

High winds and tornado watches were reported downstate Monday as warmer weather moved in.
