Ex-janitor sentenced to up to 15 years in teen sex case

TRAVERSE CITY – A school janitor who initiated a sexual relationship with a then-13-year-old female student was sentenced to up to 15 years in prison today.

Marc W. Morris, son of former Traverse City Area Board of Education President Gerald Morris, must serve a minimum of 95 months in prison before he’s eligible for release.

Morris admitted to having sex in 2010 with the East Middle School student. They met there when he worked as a janitor.

"I would like to apologize to the victim, the family, friends, the community ... for the harm I’ve caused," Morris said.

Thirteenth Circuit Court Judge Thomas Power gave Morris the maximum sentence possible.
