Just lip sync

Designated singer anyone?

After watching the winter Olympics, I noted the following:

1. The patriotic Canadian gold medal winners visibly and enthusiastically singing their national anthem.

2. The American team using hired motivators for the downhill skiing events.

With that in mind, I'm proposing that anyone who knows the words to our national anthem be hired as "designated" singers for our gold medal winners who either don't know the words or couldn't care less.

You wouldn't even have to carry a tune, just lip sync the words if you wish.

Finally independent

Many now say that government is the problem. There is a lack of bipartisanship that permeates Washington.

Anyone who compromises is ostracized; and being a "moderate" is considered lacking principles.

Gone are the days when "compromise" meant supporting an idea beneficial for Americans -- regardless of party affiliation.

Now we have conservatives and liberals moving away from the idea of compromise.

Why? One reason is that the idea of "helping the other side" becomes anathema. Why make President Obama look good by supporting anything he does (even if it has merit). And vice-versa.

I propose that now may be the time for a new approach: Abolish political parties.

Let each candidate run on his own platform. He (or she) could propose exactly what they believe in without having to conform to, or rely on, an "entrenched party."

They would finally be independent to propose and/or support good ideas from anyone.

I also suggest that if conservatives can have their Tea Parties without supporting Republicans, then liberals can have their Wine & Cheese parties, or Organic Food parties (whatever) without supporting Democrats.

It's more than a modest proposal. In my opinion, it's a realistic solution.
