Wake up, America

This country was founded on the belief "In God we Trust." That belief has stayed us through many trials. Somewhere we have changed that motto to "We trust in ourselves."

History has proven that man's reliance on man has garnered disaster. We need to be on our knees, not on the dais.

If we turn our back on God, He will certainly leave us to our own folly. Look at what our country is becoming.

We've taken prayer out of our schools and replaced it with security guards and locked doors. We've taken prayer out of Congress and replaced it with corruption.

We've taken prayer out of our homes and replaced it with immorality and a "me-first" attitude.

Wake up, America, turn back now before it is too late, for I fear Sept. 11 was just the beginning.

Politics as sport

I appreciate having the news in print, and welcome receiving our local newspapers which provide thoughtful content to consider.

What offends me is news media, such as Fox News and talk radio, that complain about the assessment from the White House that they are not legitimate news outlets.

I understand that. Isn't that obvious? And I believe it is dangerous because they suggest that they are reporting news, when it is really their opinions about what makes the news.

I remember reading about "the games people play." Games like "Ain't it Awful" and "Now I've got you, you SOB!" Destructive games to hurt rather than help. I'm hearing those games played all the time by radio and cable outlets that have created a bizarre landscape for which they take no responsibility.

I heard Sean Hannity decry the demise of the media and journalism. Well, who started that? The cry that conservative voices are being silenced is far from the truth.

It is not the conservative message but the shrill way in which it is being presented that is creating chaos.

Politics has become a sport -- and it's embarrassing.
