Think, then shoot

We recently were unfortunate to have a gut-shot young doe come to our yard by a lake, to die. She had been shot with a white-feathered arrow in East Bay Township near Chandler Lake. She truly suffered. A Department of Natural Resources Officer came quickly and ended her misery. It was not his first put-down of the day.

If you are a responsible person hunting, you should put your name and address on the arrow. Then you can be tracked down. This shooter was not accountable. The young deer was unable to have traveled far. The shooter did not come looking for her. You are not a sportsman, you are a torturer. If you don't have a good shot, don't take it. A bad shot is only going to make the deer suffer and that is not right.

Think before you let that arrow fly. Your shot that day had greater ramifications than you will ever know.

Praise for ACLU

I'm a student at Traverse City High School. In class we've been talking about the American Civil Liberties Union and their bust on the Leelanau "boys in blue." The ACLU sent a letter to Leelanau County Sheriff Michael Oltersdorf complaining about deputies illegally entering homes in search of minors with alcohol.

It's a relief to know that someone still believes in and upholds the Constitution. I can honestly say I can sleep better at night knowing that. I'd like to personally shout out to, and thank, Mr. Steve Morse for his bravery.

It is a great injustice to corrupt the Third Amendment. As a teenager who lives in Grand Traverse County, I often feel discriminated against by the police because of my age. It's nice to know that there's still people out there, like Steve Morse, who stick up for everyone's rights regardless of their age.
