Moral downward spiral

With the approach of Christmas, I thought about how Joseph and Mary could not find a place to stay for the night, and Mary's time had come to deliver her baby. There was no room at the inn, only a cold dark stable with a feeding trough for the child to lay his head.

Then I thought how barbaric it was back then. King Herod hearing about the child and whom he might be, ordered all babies less than 2 years of age to be killed.

Some things never change. Babies are killed by the thousands daily in America today and have been for the past 38 years. Some are disposed of in garbage cans along with the trash. As a nation, is it any wonder that we are in a moral and economic downward spiral?

Join process for change

If you don't understand the Occupy movement, please come to see what it is about before you dismiss it.

Occupy Wall Street started a movement that now has spread to 1,500 sites around the world and it is growing.

It is organic. It is about equality. It is also about ecological awareness. It is about realigning our priorities in a changing world. It is about solidarity and cooperation. It is about job creation in a new green economy.

And most of all, it is about listening, learning, sharing, engaging and reconciliation.

Occupy Wall Street and Occupy Traverse City are about renewing the promise of the Constitution. Its strength is that there are no leaders and no agenda. All are leaders and the agenda is social justice.

A movement is whenever people are in conversation with themselves; it is asking for what we want.

Occupy is a turning away from a corporate-dominated government to a living democracy. It incorporates the values of equality and transparency.

We in Occupy Traverse City invite you to join us, Saturdays at noon in downtown Traverse City. Come to listen and share. Come join the process for positive equitable change.

All are welcome.
