CMS protest planned
CMS Energy has invited citizens of northern Michigan to participate in a celebration of a grand reopening of East Park outside Petoskey. The health department closed beaches due to releases of toxic and caustic leachate from millions of tons of cement kiln dust buried beneath East Park and the golf courses at Bay Harbor.
CMS proposes to transfer this industrial waste from Bay Harbor and East Park to an injection well near Alba, headwater basin of our great northern Michigan rivers.
Respectfully, Friends of the Jordan and POWER (Protect our Water and Environmental Resources) object. We cannot celebrate a pollution "solution" that transfers the contamination from Bay Harbor and East Park to Antrim County.
Friends of the Jordan and POWER will celebrate their democratic right to peacefully and legally protest this flawed solution. We will gather at 8:30 today near the entrance of East Park with "No Alba Well" and "Clean Up Bay Harbor AT Bay Harbor" signs.
We invite concerned citizens to join us in encouraging CMS to work cooperatively with Petoskey to find a solution to their leachate problem that will not endanger other communities.

'On Poetry' lauded
I want to commend you on the addition of the column "On Poetry" in the Sunday edition. Fleda Brown does a remarkable job and it has added so much richness to my Sunday mornings. Her poem selections and accompanying commentary deliver nuggets of thought that often last through the week.
