A mere misdemeanor

When Ronald Reagan's first appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court was asked what she thought of that court's recent opinion allowing unlimited corporate spending for or against candidates, including judges, she responded "Read my opinion."

She was referring to her previous opinion that upheld such restrictions.

Today, Sandra Day O'Connor told the New York Times that the recent decision will "energize the arms race in judicial elections."

People in our region understand what is at stake here. We felt the full brunt of corporate mischief in the Meijer debacle.

At the time, illegal corporate contributions were considered a felony. Today, the same activity is no longer a crime.

Meijer's concealment of their interference in our election is a mere misdemeanor ... like walking your dog without a leash.

Fight back

How is it that the demon Bush Administration got its legislation passed with only 51 votes, as opposed to 60? Republicans are trying to defeat, delay, obfuscate and deny any type of health care, financial or any other type of reform.

They are the party of "no." The fact that you are still making noises about bi-partisanship, when you know that all they want is failure for this president, and this Congress, is laughable.

Grow up and fight back. It's time for the Democratic Party to acquire a spine, something that has been lacking for a very long time.

Now that the Supreme Court has told us it will not limit corporate cash contributions to politicians, we are even more under attack.

We no longer have a representative government, but one that is totally owned and controlled by K-Street lobbyists and Wall Street.

All those bankers (you know the ones), their CEOs, CFOs and boards of directors should be sitting jail cells.

They truly make the Robber Barons of the past look like innocent school children.
