TRAVERSE CITY — Police had a busy start to the National Cherry Festival.
The Traverse City Police Department responded to 264 calls for service Friday through Sunday night. During that time period eight people were arrested for various offenses, including disorderly conduct, driving while intoxicated and drug-related matters.
Saturday during the day and evening were the busiest times with the largest crowds of the weekend observed. Police handled 112 calls for service Saturday.
Capt. Steve Morgan said those numbers are roughly twice that of a normal weekend.
