Details of GT Band grants

Recent disbursements by the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians from slot machine gambling totaled $949,482.08 and were given to local governments and agencies, including:

Prisoner housing contracts with Antrim County ($12,775); Benzie County ($19,162); Charlevoix County ($12,775); and Leelanau County ($63,875).

Acme Township

Funding for the Traverse City Convention and Visitors Bureau for the 2010 Michigan partnership program to maximize leveraging opportunity to generate more exposure for tourism in the State's "Pure Michigan" campaign for the region's economy, $75,000.

Alba School

Funding for the Alba Community Athletic Complex, to provide the school and community members with a facility for team activities and enjoyment of the natural environment for individual outdoor recreation, $12,000.

Antrim County Emergency Services

Funding for the purchase of reflective house numbering signs for residence and businesses in Antrim County that currently do not have proper numbering in accord with the county-wide house numbering ordinance, $25,203.03.

Benzie County EMS

Seeking funding to purchase a rescue sled/snowmobile which can be converted for summer use, $7,000.

Benzonia Township

Funding for the purchase of a generator, $10,000.

Benzonia Township

Seeking funding to provide sport activities for Special Olympics, which is a year-round program, $4,000.

Boyne City Public Schools

Funding for 1) Boyne City Performing Arts Center in the amount of $15,000; and 2) $10,000 for the school weight room, $25,000.

Charlevoix High School

Funding for the school to host a college night for area students and the community -- geared towards high school students, young adults, and adults who will be given the opportunity to explore their educational and college options; 61 schools and 60+ post secondary institutions will take part in this event, $2,500.

Charter Township of Garfield

Funding for the non-profit organization, "Michael's Place" located in Traverse City, which serves grieving children, teens, and families following the death of a loved one; funding will be used to increase the volunteer base through a more structured and defined volunteer recruitment, training, education, mentorship, and continuing education program to better meet the needs of the community, $15,100.

Chestonia Township

Funding to purchase approximately 100 Edenpure heaters for the Elders Advisory Organization, $30,000.

City of Boyne City

Funding for the Boyne Area Alano Club's yearly operating expenses, $5,000; Funding for the Boyne Area Free Clinic to continue and enhance the previously funded phase of the purchase of an X-Ray machine, $25,000.

City of Charlevoix

Funding for Colorado Challenge, which is a program geared toward assisting at-risk teens, $5,000.

City of Charlevoix

Funding to purchase and install a water quality treatment device to improve the quality of storm water runoff in to Pine River channel, $17,250.

City of East Jordan

Funding to construct a community built playground structure, $10,930.59.

Elk Rapids Township

Funding to rehabilitate and utilize the town hall so the history of the region is reflected in activities through a "Village Quest Project," $4,800.

Grand Traverse County

Funding for the American Red Cross for the continuation and growth of the local disaster services offered by the chapter within the local community, $17,600; funding for the Conservation Resource Alliance for use in protection of the Great Lakes water quality and native fish species by completing over 60 priority projects on a dozen watersheds in 2010, $35,000; funding for the Father Fred Foundation for the "utility shut-off' program, the need of which increased by 22 percent from last year, $75,000; funding for Goodwill Industries for start-up/capacity-building for Food Rescue of NW Michigan. Food Rescue is a new program of Goodwill Industries, $30,000; funding to assist Grand Traverse County's GIS Department to obtain updated color digital orthophotography. $14,804.55; funding for Michigan Land Use Institute for the "Fresh Food Connections" program to improve the health and diets of NW MI families while also "directing a major infusion of new federal funds directly into the region's local food economy, $26,400; funding for the Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency's "Meals on Wheels Program," $18,000; funding for Planned Parenthood to continue to provide abstinence-based educational programming, $11,334; funding for Grand Traverse Sheriff's Department and Traverse Bay Children's Advocacy Center's partnership with the Tri-County Coalition for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect, $35,000;

Also, funding for the Grand Traverse Dyslexia Association to teach at-risk individuals the skills they need to succeed in school and in their communities by providing tuition assistance, $10,000; funding for the Commission on Aging program, $2,500; Grand Traverse Fire Dept. - Rural Division/Grand Traverse Rural Fire Dept. funding to install new fire pump into 1982 ladder truck, $60,000.

Homestead Township, Benzie County

Funding for the construction of a skate park facility in the Homestead Township Park, $7,000.

Leelanau County Board of Commissioners

Funding in conjunction with the Leelanau County Office of Emergency Management and Knights of Columbus to get address signs placed throughout the county, $10,000; funding to purchase software and hardware for Law Enforcement Center interrogation room, $4,320.

Leelanau County Family Coordinating Council

Funding for the continuation of the Baby Pantry and the Laundry Program, $19,800.

Leelanau Township

Funding for the development and implementation of an exhibit on the Native American settlements that existed near the Grand Traverse lighthouse at the tip of the Leelanau Peninsula, $2,225.

Mancelona Public Schools

Funding for the purchase of a projector, S-video cable, projector bulb, projector ceiling mount, projector cart, PC to TV/projector scan converter, and headphone -- all of these to bring Mancelona students up to par with 21st century technology of other schools within Northern Lower Michigan, $9,819.41.

Suttons Bay Bingham District Library

Funding for additional expansion to the library for three additional databases, $3,000.

Suttons Bay Bingham Fire and Rescue Authority

Funding to purchase 1) high pressure lifting bag; 2) water supply adaptors for Peshawbestown hydrants, and 3) cascade air supply system to replace the currently outdated, dangerous, and inefficient breathing apparatus, $20,500.

Suttons Bay Public School

Funding to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables as mid-morning snacks each school day to pre-school through 8th grade, $30,000; Suttons Bay Public School/TART Trails, funding for the development of a bike safety education class that will include creating a survey, bike recycling/giveaway program, helmet/red blinkie/bike light giveaway program, assembling a workgroup to create the curriculum for the class and bike rodeo, $15,000.

Suttons Bay Township

Funding for Leelanau Christian Neighbors organization that serves residents of Leelanau County by providing food for the hungry and aiding those who have inadequate resources to respond to emergencies, $16,000.

Traverse City Area Public Schools

Funding for the continuation of the Boys & Girls Club at West Middle School, $41,459; funding for "Students in Transition Empowerment Program (STEP) of East & West Middle Schools, Central High School, West Senior High School, and Traverse City High School, schools within the district where 37% of the students are experiencing homelessness, $15,000; funding for 67 students with mild cognitive impairments and/or autism spectrum disorder who will attend one hour weekly swimming lessons, September through May, at the Civic Center pool in Traverse City, $9,552.

Traverse City Fire Department

Funding will be used to purchase a "First Mate Pro" maritime thermal night vision camera, $3,500.

Village of Elk Rapids Police Department

Funding to purchase a digital in-car camera system to be installed in a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe 4-wheel drive police car, $4,500.

Whitewater Township

Funding for water and sewer to the Fire/Emergency Services facility, $19,797.
