WILLIAMSBURG — Several Michigan State Police posts have a new leader.
Russell Smith recently was promoted to captain and 7th District commander. Smith replaced Tim Rod, who retired in May after 38 years with the state police.
Smith will supervise the nine state police posts associated with the 7th District, including the Traverse City post on 14th Street.
He joined the state police in 1978.
and previously served at posts in West Branch, Bay City, Flint, Bridgeport, East Tawas, Sault Ste. Marie and Gaylord, according to a state police statement.
