Whether you wanted to tout the Traverse City Film Festival, a gubernatorial candidate or any number of paid commercials, "Larry King Live" Tuesday night was the place to be.
Festival founder Michael Moore was interviewed live from an outdoor studio on Front Street. The show is broadcast on CNN.
The interview was interrupted numerous times by commercials, often in the middle of a sentence. The broadcast would resume again — often in the middle of sentence — only to be interrrupted again.
No one was available for comment at Charter Communications, the local cable provider.
Moore still managed to tout the festival from its Opening Night party. He told King they'd sold 100,000 tickets so far and pumped $60 million into the local economy through the film festival and the downtown State Theatre. He mentioned his State Theatre Project, which aims to help restore shuttered theaters in other cities.
King said he'd been to Traverse City before for a conference "a couple years ago."
The crowd on Front Street mostly was polite, save for one autograph seeker and one politically minded spectator who chanted "Kildee for governor," apparently referring to Dan Kildee, who dropped out the race in March. Most of the crowd was eating from the "world bazaar" food offered at the party — or talking about movies.
