TRAVERSE CITY — Three people assaulted and robbed a homeless man in Traverse City.

The victim, 22, was on Gillis Street near Front Street about 9 p.m. Tuesday when three other men approached him. The men called the victim "derogatory names" and began to punch and kick him, police said.

The men allegedly knocked the victim over and took his backpack, then ran off. The victim suffered cuts to his face and told police he didn't recognize the robbers.

Police weren't able to locate the suspects. The backpack was black with skulls on it and contained six DVDs, police said.
