BELLAIRE — A student accused of passing a fake bomb threat to Mancelona High School administrators faces a felony charge.
Dylan Michael Robbins, 17, is charged with making a false report or threat of a bomb or harmful device. He's set to be arraigned today.
Antrim County Prosecutor Charlie Koop said Robbins, a student at the school, collaborated with another student to make a bomb threat on Sept. 27. Koop said Robbins tore a corner of paper from a school assignment, and the other student wrote "bomb" and a time on the scrap.
Robbins took the note to the school's office and said he found it in a bathroom. Officials promptly evacuated the school.
"You have somebody who is just 17 and doesn't want to be in class and says, 'Jeez, this is a good way to get out of school,'" Koop said. "He probably doesn't think it is a big deal, but in this day and age, indicating that there is a bomb in the school will get all the adults upset."
The other student is likely to face charges as a juvenile, Koop said, but hasn't yet been charged.
Robbins admitted to his role in the incident after officials saw his assignment sheet, Koop said.
"This is not CSI-type stuff," he said, referring to a popular forensic crime-based television show. "You take a piece of paper and slip it into where it was torn from, and it's a pretty good fit."
Neither Robbins nor his family could be reached for comment. He does not yet have an attorney listed in court records.
