TRAVERSE CITY — A helicopter from U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City evacuated a man with health concerns from South Manitou Island.
The helicopter air crew made the trip Tuesday afternoon to the Lake Michigan island after a National Park Service maintenance worker reportedly showed heart attack signs, said park and Coast Guard officials.
Coast Guard officials in Milwaukee received an emergency dispatch call, and the local air station launched a rescue helicopter.
The man, whose name was not released, was picked up on the island, located about 16 miles west of Leland. He then was taken from the air station to Traverse City's Munson Medical Center, where the Coast Guard reported his condition as stable.
