da Vinci robot visits Cherry Fest

TRAVERSE CITY — National Cherry Festival visitors will have a chance to operate a da Vinci Surgical System during a Health by the Bay event.

Munson Medical Center will sponsor a demonstration by the system from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 5, at the Open Space on Grandview Parkway adjacent to the Clinch Park Marina. Participants will be able to operate the surgical device that translates a surgeon's hand, wrist and finger movements into precise micro-movements of miniaturized instruments on interactive robotic arms on a patient-side cart.

Information on the device and the types of minimally invasive procedures being performed at Munson will be available. Surgeons and operating room staff also will be on hand.
