TRAVERSE CITY — A local foundation donated $30,000 to Traverse City Central High School's debate team.
Traverse City Area Public Schools board members are expected to accept the donation from the Lagina Family Foundation at a Monday meeting.
School officials said the grant will provide opportunities for more students to participate in debate. Central High School Principal Rick Vandermolen, coach Carol Roehrich and parent Anne Stanton will decide how the money is spent with input from students and parents.
The Trojans' varsity debate team took top honors in January at the Michigan Interscholastic Forensic Association Varsity State Tournament. Roehrich also was named Michigan Debate Educator of the Year in 2009.
