Swim zones, Eighth Street back on table

TRAVERSE CITY -- Swim zones and Eighth Street are back on the city's table.

Traverse City commissioners are set to discuss their legal strategy for a lawsuit against the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment regarding swim zones along West Grand Traverse Bay's beaches. The city sued the department for the right to expand the boat-free swim zones and recently rejected a settlement offer from the state.

Commissioners also will discuss the planned Eighth Street reconstruction project, including information about bike lanes.

Mayor Chris Bzdok questioned why bike lanes weren't included in the street project's plans in recent weeks, setting off a community discussion about the planned street overhaul.

Commissioners will meet Monday at 7 p.m. at the Governmental Center, 400 Boardman Ave. in Traverse City.
