TRAVERSE CITY — The Grand Traverse Bay YMCA Board of Directors recognized the service of people in the advancement of the mission of the YMCA.
Marc Judge was named Board Volunteer of the Year. Doug Cook, Denny Lauterbach and Nick Edson were recognized for their service to the Board as they leave the Board in 2013.
The YMCA also acknowledged its “150 Club” — volunteers who gave over 150 hours of service to the organization last year. Members recognized were Steve Cerrone, Bill Grombala, Marc Judge, Dan Monette, Ryan Schook and Lynn Schultz.
Edson was given the 2012 Lifetime Mission award for his service on the board and out in the community for the Y.
Grombala was named the 2012 Program Volunteer of the Year for his time and service as a volunteer with the Y Lacrosse program.
Katie Gallagher, Karley Curtis, and Maggie Gordon won the 2012 Youth Volunteer of the Year for their time and service at the Childhood Education Center.
Jordyn Fortier and Julia Tabaczka won the Y Strong Kids Award for their dedication to the YMCA gymnastic program.
The family of Tom and Alicia Ackerson with their children Aaron and Amelia received the Y’s Strong Family Award.
Brittany Theisen received the 2012 Strong Employee Award. She began working for the Y as an intern and now works as a personal trainer, group fitness instructor and customer services representative.
Plante Moran received the YMCA Strong Communities Award for outstanding service to the community in many ways.
Jim Elkins received the Dave & Beth Howard Y Champion Award in recognition for his service to the Facility Committee and the Capital Campaign.
Other awards given were:
YMCA Youth Development Award – Schook.
YMCA Healthy Living Award – Caroline Ebbinghaus and George Powell.
YMCA Social Responsibility Award – Traverse City State Bank.
YMCA Hank Johnson Philanthropy Award – Roland M. Gerstacker Foundation.
