Body of missing man found at Wexford Co. lake

CHERRY GROVE TOWNSHIP — Searchers have found the body of a 41-year-old man who disappeared after jumping into a northern Michigan lake to rescue his 2-year-old son who fell from a boat.

The Wexford County sheriff’s department says the body of Kenneth Coty of Saginaw County’s Lakefield Township was found Wednesday morning along the shore of Lake Mitchell near Cadillac.

Authorities say he pushed his son back into the boat on Friday, then disappeared underwater. Officials say Coty’s 9-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son also were in the boat.

The lake straddles the Cherry Grove-Selma Township line, just west of Cadillac and about 35 miles southeast of Traverse City.
