City to ask for rail cars to be moved

TRAVERSE CITY — Officials hope a "friendly request" will solve an eyesore on the south side of town.

About 15 railroad cars have been parked on tracks near Lake Ridge condos on the western edge of Boardman Lake, much to the consternation of condo residents.

The city commission on Monday decided to send a letter to the cars' owner in an effort to get them moved. If that doesn't work, litigation may follow.

The cars are believed to be owned by Great Lakes Central Railroad of Owosso, condo officials said.
