Missing swimmer's body found

LELAND — Divers recovered the body of a missing Lake Leelanau teenager who drowned after being swept into deep water by strong Lake Michigan currents.

Lt. Clint Kerr of the Leelanau County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the body had been located in the water, but he declined further comment until after he met with the family.

Brian Paul Rolston, 16, was swimming in shallow water but in heavy surf at Van’s Beach on Thursday about 6 p.m. when a rip tide swept him into deep water and he slipped beneath the surface.

Search and rescue teams searched last night by boat and air without success, as did a regional dive team. Divers resumed the search at 8 a.m. today and discovered the body shortly before noon.
