Sixth-graders holding sock drive
TRAVERSE CITY — Sixth-graders at The Pathfinder School will be collecting socks through November.
The students, with support from the United Way, are asking for new socks that will be given out locally. Socks can be dropped off at the Pathfinder office, 11930 S. West Bay Shore Drive, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Library program and film on Afghanistan
Traverse City — The Traverse Area District Library's Live! @ the Library series on Tuesday will feature "Empowering Transformation in Afghanistan" presented by Toc Dunlap.
Dunlap will discuss the Afghan Institute of Learning, founded in 1995 by Dr. Sakena Yacoobi, and dedicated to improving the health and education of Afghan women and children. An eight-minute film, "Uncommon Heroes" also will be shown.
The program will start at 7 p.m. at the Traverse Area District Library, 610 Woodmere Ave. Admission is free and the public is welcome. Call 932-8500 for more information.
Museum has magical activities
TRAVERSE CITY — There will be a Brainstorm Challenge Day at the Great Lakes Children's Museum on Monday for school-age children.
Traverse City Area Public Schools don't have school Monday.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the museum, 13240 S. West Bay Shore Drive, there will activities revolving around magic, including tricks, optical illusions and the science of magic.
The activities are geared for children ages 5 and up and children must be accompanied by a caregiver. Activities are included in the price of admission, $6 per person for ages 2 and up; free for children under 2.
