TRAVERSE CITY — Deputies arrested a Traverse City man for drunken driving, then said they found a loaded gun near his waist.

Grand Traverse County prosecutors charged Dale Robert Chandler, 39, this week with carrying a concealed weapon, drunken driving and possessing a firearm while under the influence of alcohol.

A Grand Traverse sheriff's deputy stopped Chandler's vehicle in a parking lot off Woodmere Avenue. Preliminary breath tests showed Chandler's blood-alcohol levels were 0.25 and 0.26 percent, court records show.

The deputy also said he found a loaded pistol near Chandler's waist. Chandler doesn't have a license to carry a concealed weapon, deputies said.
