International Affairs Forum speakers set

TRAVERSE CITY — The first three sessions of Northwestern Michigan College's International Affairs Forum series are scheduled.

The series is designed to bring notable speakers to Traverse City to discuss contemporary topics. Sessions will be held once a month from September through June 2011, except for December and January, and are always on Thursdays from 6 to 7:15 p.m. in the Milliken Auditorium on main campus.

The first speaker is Ambassador Shashank, former Secretary of India and Indian Ambassador to South Korea. He currently is a visiting professor in the Center on African Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi and is president of the Indian Council for International Cooperation.

Shashank will speak on Sept. 16 about India and its neighbors.

The next speaker will be Dr. Pauline Muchina, senior partnership adviser in Washington, D.C., for UNAIDS, the joint United Nations program on AIDS and HIV. She on Oct. 21 will discuss the challenges facing Sub-Saharan Africa in the 21st century.

Jack Segal, recent top NATO adviser on Afghanistan, will speak on Nov. 18 about his insider's view of the war-torn country.
