Woman faces drunken-driving charge

TRAVERSE CITY — A Traverse City woman faces a felony drunken driving charge.

Susan Marie Fenton, 48, is charged with third-offense drunken driving and failure to stop after a collision. A Grand Traverse sheriff's deputy arrested her last week.

A man told deputies Fenton pulled out in front of him on Silver Lake Road June 11, court records show. He hit her, and she drove off. A woman who witnessed the crash called police and followed Fenton's vehicle.

A deputy said Fenton showed "obvious signs of intoxication." A blood-alcohol test registered 0.31, nearly four times Michigan's legal limit of 0.08.

Fenton has drunken driving convictions from 1991 and 2007, records show.

Heroin overdose kills man

Benzie County's struggle with fatal heroin overdoses continues. Authorities confirmed Justin Smith, 23, of Benzonia, was found dead Wednesday night of a heroin overdose. Law enforcement officials arrested a suspect in Smith's death, the fourth heroin-related fatality in the county since 2011.
