BEULAH —
An Ohio man drowned Sunday while swimming in Lake Michigan in Benzie County’s Lake Township.
The victim, 40, was swimming in three- to five-foot waves at Peterson Beach when he disappeared, Benzie County Sheriff Rory Heckman said. A friend swimming with the man told authorities he was barely able to make it back to shore due to rough conditions.
The victim’s body later was found by a National Park Ranger in about five feet of water. He was taken to Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital in Frankfort but could not be revived. His name was withheld pending notification of family.
