KALKASKA — A 52-year-old man from Flint drowned in Torch Lake.
Kalkaska County Sheriff David Israel said the victim, Gary Lee Reynolds, was walking with his wife Tuesday evening in a portion of the lake near the Division Street access area of Clearwater Township when the couple somehow stumbled into much deeper water.
"They went from ankle-deep water into water that was 10 feet deep," Israel said.
Neighbors and witnesses heard the couple scream for help and called authorities. Reynolds' wife was rescued. Attempts to save Reynolds were unsuccessful. Emergency medical technicians found his body, pulled it to shore and attempted to revive the man to no avail.
An investigation continues, Israel said.
