TCLP audit contract to be awarded

TRAVERSE CITY — City commissioners will discuss who will enter into a $92,500 contract with a Colorado-based firm to conduct a management and operations audit of its city-owned electric utility when it meets Monday at 7 p.m. in the commission chambers.

A task force led by the Traverse Bay Economic Development Corporation spent almost eight months preparing a request for proposals and reviewing applications before unanimously recommending Hometown Connections International LLC from four applicants. The task force found Hometown, which is majority-owned by the American Public Power Association, had the most experience and is best aligned to provide the type of audit sought by the city and Traverse City Light and Power.

The Light and Power board approved the recommendation and asked that it be allowed to contract with Hometown instead of the city commission. Light and Power will pay for the contract, regardless of who signs it.
