TRAVERSE CITY — A Kingsley man tried to shoplift jewelry from The Society of St. Vincent de Paul thrift shop, authorities said.
Police arrested the man, 31, on a larceny charge shortly after he grabbed "inexpensive" jewelry and walked out of the Woodmere Avenue store Friday afternoon, Traverse City police Capt. Mike Ayling said.
The nonprofit shop sells clothing, furniture and other household items at low prices.
A store employee reported the crime to police and described the suspect's clothing. Officers found the man on foot near the store. He took jewelry out of his pocket and tossed it away.
The jewelry was recovered and returned to the store.
