Film fest sets panels, classes

TRAVERSE CITY — Topics for the free morning panels at the Traverse City Film Festival have been announced.

The panels are held at the City Opera House and tickets are handed out beginning at 8:30 a.m. each morning.

n July 28: Film literacy with film professors from the University of Michigan, visiting filmmakers and festival founder Michael Moore.

n July 29: Michael Barker and Tom Bernard of Sony Pictures Classics.

n July 30: Four Cuban filmmakers with films showing at the festival.

n July 31: Eight documentary filmmakers with movies showing at the festival.

n Aug. 1: Comedy panel, with Michael Moore, Jeff Garlin, Sabina Guzzanti and visiting filmmakers.

Film school topics also have been announced. The film school will hold two sessions each day — at noon and 3 p.m. — at Northwestern Michigan College's Scholars Hall. Classes cost $5.

This year's topics include sound, screenwriting, short films, acting, financing and more. For more information, go to www.traversecityfilmfest.org.
