Kalkaska County prosecutor dies Sat.

TRAVERSE CITY — Kalkaska County Prosecutor Brian Donnelly died, authorities said.

The Grand Traverse Sheriff's Department in a news release said emergency responders went to the Vasa trail in Grand Traverse County on a report of a man down at about 2:45 p.m. Saturday.

A Kalkaska man who was skiing on the trail was found unresponsive and was transported to Munson Medical Center.

The release did not name the man, 61, or provide his condition.

Kalkaska County Commissioner Mike Cox said Kalkaska County Undersheriff Abe DeVol called late Saturday to inform him that Donnelly died while skiing on the Vasa. DeVol didn't provide a cause of death, Cox said.

Donnelly served as Kalkaska's prosecutor since 1995. He most recently won re-election in 2008.

Donnelly is the second prominent public official in Kalkaska County to die this week, after Kalkaska Public Schools President James S. Peters Jr., who died Friday at his home.
