TRAVERSE CITY — Police arrested an Interlochen man for drunken driving after his blood-alcohol level tested four times the state's legal limit.

Grand Traverse County authorities charged Richard Jerome Braden, 45, with felony drunken driving, assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer, and driving on a suspended license.

Michigan State Police arrested Braden last week after he approached a Green Lake Township residence and asked for help with his vehicle, court records show. The resident refused to help Braden, then called police.

Officers found Braden hiding in a bush and he allegedly kicked them to avoid arrest. A preliminary breath test showed Braden had blood-alcohol levels of 0.327 percent.

He remained in the Grand Traverse County Jail on Monday afternoon. Braden has two prior drunken-driving convictions.
