Deputy hospitalized after ORV crash

TRAVERSE CITY — A Grand Traverse sheriff's deputy briefly was hospitalized after he crashed an off-road vehicle he was driving into an oncoming vehicle.

Deputy Nicholas Brief, 21, crashed his off-road vehicle into an oncoming vehicle along East Blair Townhall Road just before 11:30 a.m. Sunday. Brief, a part-time ORV deputy, was treated and released from Munson Medical Center for minor injuries.

Brief and the other driver, Justin Temple, 18, of Kingsley, both approached a sharp, blind curve when they collided, said sheriff's Lt. Bryan Marrow. Temple was not hospitalized.

No tickets were issued at the scene, but deputies continue to investigate.
