Traverse area library has new director

TRAVERSE CITY -- The Traverse Area District Library has a new leader.

The local library's Board of Trustees hired Metta Lansdale, currently the director of the Royal Oak Public Library, to replace retiring TADL Director Michael McGuire. He worked for the district for 34 years and will retire at month's end.

The local library system has five entities, including the main branch on Woodmere Avenue in Traverse City, two branches in East Bay Township and Kingsley, plus three member libraries: Fife Lake Public Library, Interlochen Public Library and Peninsula Community Library.

Lansdale is vice chairwoman of the Michigan Center for the Book and is on the Legislative Action Committee for the Michigan Library Association. She will begin in Traverse City in November.

A farewell reception for McGuire will be Sept. 30 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the library's atrium, 610 Woodmere Ave. in Traverse City.''
