Bad checks lead to felony charges

TRAVERSE CITY -- Cashing two bad checks for almost $17,000 -- including one for a non-existent bank -- led to felony charges against a Traverse City man.

Grand Traverse County prosecutors charged Johnnie Cecil Lardie, 36, and alleged he cashed one bad check for $8,450 at Cash Plus on July 29, and another drawn on an account at Wachovia Bank for $8,400 at Members Credit Union. Both checks were drawn on accounts for Stanecki, Inc., which denied writing either check.

A warrant was issued for Lardie's arrest. He faces two charges of uttering and publishing, each punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
