PESHAWBESTOWN -- Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians Chairman Derek Bailey will participate in a Tribal Nations Conference in Washington, D.C.
Bailey is among tribal leaders throughout the U.S. who will take part in the Nov. 5 conference at the White House, hosted by President Barack Obama. Officials will discuss various Indian Country issues, including tribal self-governance, sovereignty, protection of tribal homelands and relations with federal agencies.
Bailey also is scheduled to meet with U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, and federal Labor Secretary Hilda Solis.
