MANCELONA -- A major Antrim County road project is just about finished in Mancelona.
The Michigan Department of Transportation is wrapping up a $3 million overhaul this week on U.S. 131, the major thoroughfare through the village. Work began in June and was expected to be completed by the end of October, but wet weather and cold temperatures delayed the project by two weeks, said Bob Felt, MDOT spokesman.
"Crews will be putting down pavement markings this week. The new road surface will improve the ride quality for motorists and is expected to last for approximately 20 years with routine maintenance," he said.
The highway previously was marred by cracks and potholes. The reworked section of U.S. 131 runs from the intersection with Elder Road north to the intersection with M-66.
