2 children killed in traffic crash

KALKASKA -- Michigan State Police released few details about a fatal traffic crash in Kalkaska County.

State police continue to investigate a crash that happened Thursday at about 10 a.m. at the intersection of M-66 and Boardman Road in Orange Township.

State Police said two people died in the crash, but they wouldn't identify the victims. Kalkaska Sheriff Dave Israel said the victims were children.

Witnesses said a vehicle traveling east on Boardman Road collided with a vehicle traveling north on M-66. The vehicle on Boardman road contained four Kalkaska County residents, and the vehicle on M-66 was occupied by one Kent County resident, police said.

Two passengers in the Boardman vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene, and another remains hospitalized at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids. Drivers of both vehicles were hospitalized and later released.
