8:10 am: Winter weather advisory in effect

The National Weather Service in Gaylord has issued a winter weather advisory for lake effect snow and blowing snow, in effect until 7 p.m. this evening.

Periods of accumulating lake effect snow and blowing snow with reduced visibilities are possible. The worst conditions are expected in and around Bellaire, Mancelona, and Kalkaska, stretching to near Higgins Lake.

Snow accumulation may reach 2 to 5 inches of snow through 7 p.m. An additional 2 to 4 inches is possible tonight.

Many area roads may become snow-covered and slippery, with visibilities of less than one half of a mile possible at times.

A winter weather advisory for snow and blowing snow means that visibilities will be limited due to a combination of falling and blowing snow. Use caution when traveling, especially in open areas.
