KALKASKA — Police found a woman's body during a search in Kalkaska County's Oliver Township.
State Police found the remains in a swampy area about "a stone's throw" from Mecum Road shortly before 3:30 Thursday, Lt. Kenneth Holmes said, and they believe the body is that of a missing downstate woman.
Sarah Wilson, 26, of Bloomfield Township, went missing May 9. A positive identification hasn't been made because the body is in poor condition, Holmes said, but investigators believe the body is Wilson's.
"I can tell you circumstantially, we're relatively confident that this is our missing person," he said.
Wilson was last seen with David DeJonge, 44, a downstate man who has a cabin in southern Kalkaska County. DeJonge is a suspect in Wilson's death and could be charged shortly, Holmes said.
"At this point, the Kalkaska County prosecutor has looked at what we have ... and he is in the midst of considering charges against the suspect."
Downstate police recently arrested DeJonge on an outstanding warrant from the Auburn Hills Police Department, Holmes said, and local police will pick him up if charges are issued.
