TRAVERSE CITY — Ann Reed, publisher of the Traverse City Record-Eagle since 2006, resigned her position at the newspaper.
"I will personally miss Ann as she is a marvelous individual. She has been an extremely important part of this newspaper and this community for the past several years," said Henry Bird, vice president of the Midwest Division of Community Newspaper Holdings, Inc.
Reed, 55, began her career working in classified advertising sales for the Record-Eagle more than three decades ago. In 1981, she moved to the San Diego area to work for Southcoast Newspapers in Oceanside as a classified and retail advertising manager. She later joined the Daily Herald Co. in Everett, Wash., as a retail advertising manager, advertising director and director of human resources.
In 1999, Reed returned to the area as the Record-Eagle's advertising director.
Reed was appointed president and publisher of the Record-Eagle in May 2006 by Ottaway Newspapers Inc., after serving as the newspaper's sales and marketing director. She was the first female publisher in the newspaper's history, replacing Zeke Fleet, who was promoted to a vice president's position with Ottaway, before Dow Jones & Company Inc. sold six newspapers in the Ottaway chain, including the Record-Eagle, to CNHI in late 2006.
"Traverse City is an important community to CNHI and we will start an immediate search for Ann's successor," Bird said.
