MANISTEE -- A man who allegedly assaulted a Bear Lake man faces felony charges.
Robert Lester Cheek, 54, was arraigned Wednesday on felony counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm and assault with a dangerous weapon. He remains in jail.
The victim, 35, allegedly was assaulted in his home outside Bear Lake in Manistee County's Pleasanton Township on Monday evening, police said.
The victim was in critical condition at Munson Medical Center, though he was upgraded to serious condition and was conscious and talking Wednesday afternoon.
Benzie County deputies used a dog to track Cheek to a wooded site about a quarter-mile from the victim's house. Police used a Taser to subdue Cheek, who allegedly resisted arrest.
Michigan State Police Sgt. Mark Miller said the two knew each other, but he wouldn't elaborate or give a reason for the alleged assault.
