TRAVERSE CITY -- Traverse City Light & Power awarded three grants to local agencies.
The public utility's board of directors this week voted to approve three grant requests for a total of $15,225. The recipients include Traverse City Area Public Schools, Grand Traverse Conservation District and the National Cherry Festival.
TCAPS will receive a $4,500 grant for an electricity and motor experiments program, while the conservation district will get $5,725 to spend on trail signs, maps and entrance visibility at the Boardman River Nature Center. The National Cherry Festival will receive $5,000 for continued sponsorship of senior events.
The grants were approved by a 6-1 vote, with city Commissioner Jim Carruthers the lone dissenter.
Carruthers could not be reached on Friday for comment.
