Family fun day in Blair Township
TRAVERSE CITY — A family fun day will be held in Blair Township on Saturday.
The fifth annual Blair Community Family Fun Day in the Park and Connecting People with Resources and Information Day will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the park on the corner of Vance Road and Country Road 633.
Activities will include games for kids, a water slide, horse and buggy rides and food at family-affordable prices. A dunk tank, with proceeds going to the handicapped accessible playground fund, will feature local politicians and celebrities.
Bay Film Series passes are on sale
SUTTONS BAY — Passes are on sale for the Bay Film Series that begins this month.
The lineup includes eight films — with two yet to be announced — showing one a month at the Bay Theatre in Suttons Bay. A pass for all eight movies costs $44.
The series opens with "The Secret In Their Eyes" (Argentina) in September. "Alamar" (Mexico) screens in October. "Winter's Bone" (USA) is the November movie; December is "Wild Grass" (France); "Bride Flight" (Netherlands) screens in January and February's selection is "Women Without Men" (Germany, France, Iran). Showtimes are Sundays, 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.; Mondays, 6 p.m.; or Tuesdays, 6 p.m.

Roses, plants will benefit garden
TRAVERSE CITY — The Cherry Capital Rose Society is hosting a sale and swap to benefit the planned Botanic Garden of Northwest Michigan.
The sale and swap will begin Saturday at 10 a.m. at the future site of the garden in the Grand Traverse Commons. Take 11th Street west to Red Avenue.
Donations of plants and seeds should be dug up and potted or packaged, labeled and priced. Pictures of plants in bloom are also appreciated.
A potluck lunch will be held at noon; tea, lemonade, water and table service will be provided.
A family fun run and picnic to benefit the garden is planned for Sept. 25. Registration is open for 10K, 5K and 3K events and costs $30.

Come and sample a 'Taste of Benzie'
ELBERTA — Eleven restaurants, caterers and cafes will offer samples of their specialties at the fourth annual "Taste of Benzie."
The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at Waterfront Park. Samples range in price from $1 to $3 each. There also will be an inflatable train slide, face painting, kids' crafts, live music, a silent auction and sidewalk chalk art supplies for adults and kids.
The event is sponsored by the Frankfort-Elberta Area Chamber of Commerce and the Benzie County Convention & Visitors Bureau.
