TRAVERSE CITY -- A state Senate vote on funding the Pure Michigan tourism and business campaign this year is delayed to next week.
A scheduled vote Thursday in Lansing on a $9.5 million appropriation to the Michigan Promotion Fund was postponed after several Detroit-area lawmakers were unable to get to Lansing. A crash along westbound I-96 near the Oakland County line closed the interstate and prevented some lawmakers from being able to get to Lansing for the vote, state Sen. Jason Allen said.
The Senate is expected to take up the tourism funding bill when it reconvenes Tuesday, said Norm Saari, Allen's chief of staff. The proposed $9.5 million appropriation would be added to $5.4 million already in the budget for a total Pure Michigan campaign of almost $15 million.
