TART Trails raise $125,000 for paving

TRAVERSE CITY — Plans to finish paving a trail in Leelanau County received a boost from donors.

Traverse Area Recreation and Transportation Trails raised more than $125,000 from donations and matching grants for its Leelanau Trail Paving Campaign. The group plans to pave a 6.5-mile gap between Lakeview and Revold roads this summer, and the trail will be extended through Suttons Bay to Dumas Road.

Frank Noverr and his family matched $37,500 that TART raised over a 10-day challenge period. Casey Cowell, former chairman and CEO of U.S. Robotics, also pledged $50,000 once TART met the Noverr challenge.

TART still needs to raise $50,000 to reach its $500,000 goal for the Leelanau Trail campaign.
