Program on shipwrecks offered in Interlochen

Interlochen — The Interlochen Public Library's Shipwreck Series will continue with a program by local diver and writer Ross Richardson.

Richardson will share information on six shipwrecks located near Sleeping Bear Point from 12:45 to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16, in the Golden Fellowship Hall at the library, 9700 Riley Road. Admission is free and the public is welcome.

TC Zonta award will go to outstanding leader

Traverse City — The application deadline is Friday, March 2, for the Zonta Club of Traverse City's Outstanding Woman Leader Award.

Nominations are being sought for women who have contributed their time and efforts to enrich the region. Nominees do not need to belong to Zonta.

Snowshoe Scamper benefits track team

A snowshoe scamper on Saturday, Feb. 25, benefits the Traverse City West High School Track and Field team.

The inaugural Runaway Hen Snowshoe Scamper will be at the Brengman Brothers Crain Hill Vineyards, 9720 S. Center Hwy., beginning at 10 a.m. There are 5K or 2K runs through the winery and limited snowshoe rentals will be available.

Workshop on resilience and community building

Traverse City — Workshops on Friday and Saturday, March 2-3, will explore resilience and community building in the face of climate disruptions and other challenges.

"Resilience on a Changing Planet" will be held at the Neahtawanta Inn on Old Mission Peninsula. It will open with an "Awareness Session" from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Friday. A $15 donation is suggested. Saturday's "Resilience Building" will be held 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The cost is $115. Participants may attend both sessions and stay overnight, with breakfast provided, for $220.

Workshop presenters are Diane Osborne, founder of Vibrant Traditions, and North Central Michigan College Environmental Professor Seamus Norgaard.

Owl class at Grass River Natural Area

Bellaire — Families are invited to learn "All About Owls" in a class on Saturday, Feb. 18, at Grass River Natural Area.

The class will meet at 1 p.m. The fee is $5, plus $3 for an owl pellet to dissect. Registration is required.

Indoor yard sale slated at Village at Bay Ridge

Traverse City — The Village at Bay Ridge will hold its first indoor, winter yard sale on Friday, Feb. 17.

Sale hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Village at Bay Ridge is at 3950 Scenic Ridge, off Silver Lake Road. For details, call 995-9385.

Goodwill offers free tax preparation

Traverse City — Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan is a host site for free tax preparation for senior citizens and households with an income level under $50,000.

Tax preparation is available 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday by appointment at Goodwill Industries, 2279 S. Airport Road. All counselors have passed IRS tests at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. Some counselors also have passed tests for forgiveness of debt and HSAs.
